Bob Jones High School Science Curriculum

This is a solid academic curriculum that has been used by homeschoolers with success for over 20 years.
We've used everything on this page but the physics (nothing
against the physics--they didn't take it.) Our older children liked Bob Jones science courses and did well in science on the college level (even though it
wasn't their major interest.)
Compared to Apologia's Exploring Creation series, Bob Jones science is the more traditional approach (like when I went to school in the 60s and 70s!).
Like Apologia, it is also a Christian curriculum.
BJU science also has more student activities which include various lab experiments and different types of activities to reinforce learning
(Q&A, matching, fill in the blanks, etc.). Those activities are a great way to learn thee types of questions that homeschoolers will see in college courses.
Life Science (3rd edition) introduces the living world with all its wonders. Content on organism classification, cellular biology, genetics,
and the differences between Creation and evolution has been updated. Life Science presents a Christian worldview that encourages students to worship the
Creator and serve their neighbor through their study and application of the life sciences.

The BJUP Biology Dissection Kit "contains everything needed for an individual to begin lab work and is completely compatible with the Life
Science and Biology programs. It includes an earthworm, crayfish,
a perch, and a grass frog preserved in an odorless and nontoxic form and vacuum-packed moist in a plastic bag. It also includes seven dissecting
tools in a vinyl case, a magnifying glass, an econopan, a student activity book, a packet of tissues, self sealing storage bags, dissection pins, and towelettes.
I think you could use this kit for two students at a time. We always had a lab partner when I was in high school.

Each of the lessons involves a laboratory based activity or experiment. Biology
Laboratory Exercises is a very thorough lab book that coordinates with the
Biology Text. Necessary supplies such as a microscope, slides, specimens,
and necessary equipment are listed at the beginning of each lesson. Short of
setting up a fully functional biology lab in your home, what is a homeschool
family to do? Alternatives include:
- Use the generic DIVE
Biology CD-ROM which has lectures and 28 video labs. You will have to
match the lecture topics and labs to similar ones in BJUPress Biology.
- Find a local homeschool coop or Christian camp that offers biology labs.
For example, our local Camp Susque has a science
lab and offers biology labs to homeschool students in their off season.
- Search online at Google Images images of microscopic slides or at
YouTube for videos of specific biology experiments. I quickly found many
choices for penicillum slides and for frog dissection videos. You could give
your student the responsibility of finding these. It would be a good
experience to view the different choices and make the best selection. Of
course, parental supervision of your student's internet activities is
strongly advised.
I hope BJUPress will make a Biology Experiments DVD that covers all the
ones in the book--similar to their
Space and Earth Science Lab DVD.
