Prepare your children with a worldview that is based on Christianity.
Though the Christian worldview curriculum on this page is recommended for high school and up, you may want to study this along with your junior high students. If you are a public school graduate, you will probably learn a few things yourself. Alpha Omega offers a LIFEPAC Elective called
Studies in the Christian Worldview. This one year course is designed to teach practical Christian Living to students in grades 9 to 12.It is also available in the Switched-On Schoolhouse format.
Worldviews in Focus Series (Broadman and Holman)
Arm yourselves! You know the media is biased that there are some strange ideas floating around out there. Since you have decided to teach your children at home, you may want to incorporate a study of the Christian worldview (aka Biblical worldview). The authors of Thinking Like a Christian and Countering Culture are David A. Noebel, president and co-founder of Summit Ministries, and Chuck Edwards, an instructor and writer for Summit Ministries. Summit Ministries is a Colorado Springs-based training center that teaches Christians to think and act in keeping with the Biblical worldview. The series is well done with easy to use formatting. I liked the additional reading lists for each chapter. Thus, if your student likes a particular chapter, you can find some meaty reading to supplement the curriculum.
Two courses are available in the Worldviews in Focus series. Thinking Like a Christian explores ideas that shape our culture and appropriate Biblical responses. The Countering Culture course equips your high school student to take a reasoned Biblical stand now and in the college setting.
By Chuck Edwards and David Noebel
Are your children prepared to defend their faith in a world that, in most cases, presents ideas contrary to their biblical beliefs? Thinking Like a Christian is a 12-week curriculum that teaches about the ideas that are shaping our culture and Biblical responses. The Christian worldview is explained in these 10 disciplines: theology, philosophy, biology, psychology, ethics, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history.
There are several independent teaching tracks in Thinking Like a Christian: homeschool, group settings for youth and adults, and college level. Included are discussion ideas, skits, interactive segments and reproducible handouts. On the CD-rom, these supplements are nicely organized into files. The homeschool file was thoughtfully done with homeschooling in mind!
Paperback with a CD-ROM. If you are planning to use this as a course for your student, I would recommend using the accompanying student journal.

Countering Culture
By Chuck Edwards and David Noebel
"Countering Culture equips Christians to take a reasoned stand for biblical principles in the classroom as well as in the boardroom. By understanding non-biblical worldviews, Christians gain a deeper appreciation of how to draw non-believers to what to know more about what Christ offers."
This 12-week study complements and expands the Thinking Like a Christian study. Countering Culture focuses on the ideas of Secular Humanism, Neo-Marxism, and New Age and works to prepare your student for the college setting and to present a biblical worldview for everyday living.
For homeschoolers, the Countering Culture curriculum is a complete 12-week study with daily assignments, weekly projects, and interactive times with parents. Also included on the CD, are additional midterm and final exam weeks. You can use this study to fulfill high school credits in civics, economics, philosophy, or sociology.
In addition, there are three other teaching tracks besides the homeschool track: youth group or classroom, college, and adult studies. The books are in paperback with
CD-ROM. |
