Drawn Into the Heart of Reading Teacher's Guide
By Carrie Austin, M. Ed., Heart of Dakota

Drawn Into the Heart of Reading is a one year multi-level reading program. You
select nine different types of books for your child's reading level. Then you
will teach your child to comprehend and analyze what was read. The beauty of the
program is keeping all of you on the same page, even though each child is
reading a different book. You have the freedom to choose a book for each genre
for each child.
The nine units in Drawn Into the Heart of Reading cover the
following types of books:
|
Historical Fiction
Adventure
Biography
Fantasy
Mystery |
Folk Tales
Nonfiction
Humor
Realistic Fiction |
The story elements that are emphasized in each unit are
character, setting, problem or conflict, mood, prediction/inference,
compare/contrast, cause and effect, main idea/theme, and perspective/point of
view. The major Godly character traits emphasized include faith, fear of the
Lord, responsibility, brotherly love, loyalty, virtue, obedience, joy, and
integrity.
