Editor in Chief® Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation Proofreading Workbooks
Each Editor in Chief Workbook is divided into three sections.
- In the first section are the proofreading exercises. In this section
your student will find the grammar, usage, and punctuation errors in a
reading with a captioned picture—like a real editor.
- In the second section you will find the corrected reading with the
answers explained and referenced to an English rule in the third
section.
- The English rules for grammar, usage, and punctuation are show by
category such as capitalization or part of speech. Each rule has a
number that is referenced in the answers so your homeschool student can find it
easily.
Each of the workbooks in this series are reproducible for single-classroom use.
Practice real-life editing to improve language mechanics and academic performance with Editor in Chief.
If your child needs "proofreading" practice in context, this book accomplishes the task. I always have my students do these, especially the C levels for high school.
We recently used Editor in Chief C-2 for an intensive grammar and
punctuation review for our sons. Every day for an hour or two we went
through several lessons together. The boys took turns proofreading the paragraph
and finding the grammar and punctuation errors. When they seemed stumped, I
read and explained the rule from the third section of the book. As the boys
found the errors I asked them to give an explanation. This reinforced everything
they learned and reviewed. One son unconsciously corrected the
errors as he read. When you proofread, you have to overcome that tendency of
your brain to "fix" what you are reading. You're never too old to learn. I
finally connected the dots when we did Editor in Chief and understand a
comma splice.
