Explode the CodeŽ Phonics Workbooks
The Explode the Code books are available separately or in bundles.
It is an economical and homeschool friendly reading workbook series that can
be used to supplement any reading program. Being familiar with phonics, we
worked one-on-one with each child who used the workbooks and taught reading
with phonics with it.
If you aren't sure where to place your student, there is a Placement Test
or you can look at the consonants, vowels, and blends covered in each book if you know which sounds the student needs to learn.
We suggest that you choose an easier level if the results are close. That is
because success breeds success. When a student is struggling with a subject,
there is nothing like doing something you're very good at. With this
program, it is also a good way to learn the way the workbooks are formatted
and get used to it. For the child who likes to
learn with flash cards, Code Cards are available.
Various Bundle sets are also available below.
Aligned to the Common Core State Standards
According to the publisher's website, Explode the Code is aligned to the
Common Core State Standards.
Before Explode the Code
Before your student starts in Explode the Code Books 1 to 8, he should
know the consonants and their sounds. These are taught in Books A to C.

Get Ready for the Code, Book A (consonants b, f, m, k, r, and t.)
- Get
Set for the Code, Book B (consonants d, h, j, n, p, s)
- Go for
the Code, Book C (consonants c, l, g, w, y, v, z, q, and x)
Placement Test

The Explode the Code 1/2 Series is useful for the student who needs extra practice in a regular level of the
series. For example if your student completed level 1, but struggled with it or needs more practice of the same level, then
use EC Book 1 1/2 before proceeding to Level 2. If your student is doing well with each level, you won't need the
1/2 books. Save when you purchase all six books in the EC 1/2 Series Bundle.
