Mini-review by Harriet Yoder
Over the years my cooking style has become more relaxed and efficient without sacrificing flavor. When you factor in the need for recipes that use Biblically
healthy ingredients, it is hard to imagine a cookbook that would accomplish those goals. The What the Bible Says About Healthy Living Cookbook by Hope Egan and Amy Cataldo does.
After I read Dr. Russell's book, I wanted a cookbook that accomplished two things. First, I wanted a list of acceptable and unacceptable foods. Then I wanted good tasting recipes that were easy to prepare by any member of our family.
This cookbook met my expectations plus offered more helps. The Getting Started chapter has a listing of items for stocking your pantry. A copy of that stays in my purse!
Each recipe is printed on a page of its own. I like the additional notes that may appear on a recipe page. There are suggested variations for many recipes; nutritional facts about God's design of key ingredients; and great ideas for leftovers.
What I like most about this book are recipes There are more 150 basic recipes. It is a great start. With all the suggested variations and some creativity, you will be able to create healthy versions of your family's favorites.
I also looked for recipes for dishes to take to church functions—you know, the pot luck dinners and church fellowship snacks. How many times do you see healthy and tasteful food there? I found lots of great ideas.
If you want to eat and cook better food for your family, I highly recommend this cookbook! Paperback |
