Mighty Works of God Providential History Curriculum
A Child's History of the United States
Mini-Review by Harriet Yoder
I am impressed with the ease of use for teacher--if you ever
wanted to use the principle approach but needed some guidance, the Mighty Works
of God Teacher's book is very helpful. As a late bloomer to Christianity,
I was in the midst of having babies and homeschooling when I learned about the
Principle Approach, nearly twenty years ago. It was overwhelming for me to
try to learn and teach it to the children at the same time, so I gave up after
gleaning what I could. I am so glad to see this set. I am using it
with the boys and we are seeing God's mighty hand in our history.
The artwork in the student book is absolutely wonderful. I love
a well designed book.
There's a CD-Rom that's included in the Teacher's Guide for
printing student work pages from your computer. As someone who dislikes
holding a baby on my hip and amusing a toddler while making copies at the local
copier store, this is a blessing! Well, can you tell I started homeschooling
back in the '80s!
There are three levels in the Mighty Works of God series:
Self Government,
Liberty and Justice for All,
Divine Providence.
Also from the folks at Bradford Press is the fabulous reprint of
Benjamin West and His Cat
Grimalkin by Marguerite Henry
Why Use the Mighty Works of God Series?
The main reason to use this series to teach history is that
it is based on the Principle Approach. I admit that I am not an expert, but what
I did learn from it was that our nation has a Christian heritage, God was, is,
and still has His hand in the workings of our nation, and how to "read,
research, and reason."
That's why when people ask me for what grades can you use the
Mighty Works series, I tell them it's up to them. Though intended for primary
grades, if your upper elementary children don't know these basics, then do all
three, but do them faster. If they have excellent reading skills, let them read
sections in the Teacher's Guide that you would be reading aloud to a primary
student. You can adjust the assignments that seem too easy for the older
student.

"The first in a series for the Home and School"
A Child's History of the United States of America
A Providential View

"A Primary Level History for the Home and School, that the boys
and girls of the 21st Century might remember the mighty works of God in bringing

the individual, and then its historic development in the city, state, and nation
is presented in vocabulary for the young student. Readers consider Christ
as the cause of Self Government, the Bible in English and its effect in history,
God's Hand in the discovery of the New World, the individuals and events which
God used to produce a new nation built upon the idea of Self Government, and the
expansion of the nation. The delightful illustrations and beautiful maps

The
Mighty Works Of God Divine Providence Bundle
By Ruth J. Smith, President, Pilgrim Institute
A
Child's History of the United States of America
Divine Providence, the third volume in the Mighty Works of
God series "provides an engaging presentation of God's marvelous hand in nations
– in the placement of men in nations, the fundamental laws of self and civil
government, Christ and His gift of internal liberty, Christianity's answer to
pagan ideas, and the westward movement of Christianity and liberty from Europe
to America. The Revolutionary Period records abundant evidence of Divine
Providence as Americans struggled to preserve the precious gift of American
liberty. Individuals and a nation at liberty move forward into a fascinating era
of invention and progress, leading into the 20th century and the worldwide
struggle to protect liberty against the threat of tyranny." The Mighty Works of God Liberty and Justice For All Bundle
