If you choose the GeoDeo Journey Into Africa Self-Guided Lesson Plans, then your student can work more independently while you will have the freedom to check the work as needed. The only additional materials needed besides the Journey Into Africa Resource Book and the lesson plans are a 3-ring binder and a notebook, though the Review Flash Cards are recommended. The self-guided lesson plans come in a shrink-wrapped set of sheets that are 3-hole punched to be put into a notebook of your choice. There are two sections: the student pages with the daily lesson and the activity sheets and the parent's pages with the lesson plans and answers. Subjects specifically covered in the self guided lesson plans include history, geography, science, and vocabulary.

The student portion of the lesson plans are reproducible "for the family only".

The Journey Into Africa Rhythms Improvising CD is neat for learning about rhythms. There's information about getting free lesson plans to use with this CD. I listened to various samples and am off to get the free lesson plans for use with our sons who love drums! Again this CD was professionally recorded with high quality and the speaker/instructor' voice and the various music samples are pleasing to the ear. Good listening for drives in the car.

I'm listening to the Journey Into Africa Rhythms CD as I write this page, and I think children will have fun with the rhythm activities on it. No dull moments with this one! Our 16 year-old daughter just walked in to ask a question about the meal she's preparing and walked away clapping to the CD! That's a good sign.
