Spelling Power 4th Edition Curriculum
This
multilevel text is the
Spelling Power that you hear about for homeschoolers. It is an
economical, effective, and easy to use program for teacher and students. It is a
multi-sensory approach that focuses on learning words you need to learn--as
opposed to studying twenty new words whether you know them or not.
My children enjoy giving each other the daily tests, though I
would suggest that you have the test giver read the word list to you prior to
the test-to make sure the pronunciation is correct!
Spelling Power
Fourth Edition is a Lamp Post favorite. It has a CD-ROM for making copies of
the forms or you can purchase individual
Spelling Power Student Record
Books
if you prefer.

The new revision features a CD-Rom for printing copies
of the forms.
"Your students will use this research proven program to
master the 5,000 most frequently used words. These words are divided into 11
levels based on their usage. Each level of Spelling Power’s unique word list is
then further organized by phonetic principles and spelling rules."
New words to learn come from your student’s own writing
errors. Your students continue to study each of these words until they have
spelled them correctly at least once. Assure mastery of each word your student
studies.
"Everything you need to teach each of your students spelling
skills to the college level is contained in this one easy-to-use, step-by-step
curriculum package. You’ll even find everything you need to know to teach them
proofreading and dictionary skills."
The Teacher’s Resource CD-ROM has printable skill-building
activities, teaching aids, printable test forms and more. The Searchable Word
List allows you to add words misspelled in daily writing to your students study
words. There is also a Digital Spelling Tutor.
Spelling Power includes easy-to-understand Quick Start Steps
and a Quick Start DVD Seminar to help you get started.

I recommend using the student notebook to start when you are
learning the system. It’s easier.
While reproducible forms "are found in your Spelling Power
manual, Student Record Books are handy and cost effective. They are conveniently
bound, with all forms printed in light blue. It makes your student's own
handwriting stand out."
Below are recommended grade levels for selecting the proper
student record book. I think the bottom line is to make the decision based on
the size of your student's handwriting.
