Remembering God's Awesome Acts Review
Review by Mary Alice (Our anonymous reviewer!)
This course is part of the Create-a-Notebook series covering
Genesis 1 to Exodus 12 (with a second notebook due to be out soon).
Remembering
God's Awesome Acts is recommended for fifth grade and
up. With adaptations, I used it for an upper level 3rd grader.
My primary focus was to
use this for the Ancient Egyptian section which was quite extensive! We
learned about Egyptian Government, Theories of the Pyramids, Hieroglyphics,
and Dynasties, all within a Biblical viewpoint. For the Egyptian study alone,
Remembering God's Awesome Acts is worth having, but it includes more!
We enjoyed the very detailed art
lessons and the wonderful social studies lessons of
getting to know a country. This includes not only learning about a country's
major products and climate but also about their prayer needs. The authors
recommend using Operation World by Patrick Johnstone, but the
teacher’s manual does contain most of the answers if that book is not
available. I also used Adam and His Kin
by Ruth Beechick for a great read-along literature book.
Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation
by Dennis Petersen is a wonderful resource book on Creation, equipping
my child for the ever present assault of evolution.
Let’s not forget, Remembering God's Awesome Acts does cover Creation, the Fall, Sumerians, and the Tower of Babel as well
as Noah, Abraham, and Joseph. My child will never forget the bloodline of Noah
lesson and can understand what groups of peoples came from which of Noah's
sons.
Remembering God's Awesome Acts includes a
teacher's manual and a notebook “workbook” and while it is primarily a Bible
and History course, it does include some creative writing, geography, a
drawing course and more. It did take me about 3 months to finish my "adapted"
study from this book using other resources as well. You can adapt yours for
as long as you want. I plan to do the whole book all over again in 3 years as
a more intensive study.
Remember we do not need to be a slave to any study, but we can
adapt them to get what we need out of them.
