Rosetta Stone® Foreign Language Version 3 Review

I reviewed the Spanish Latin America Rosetta Stone®, Version 3. It is improved over the previous version: more interesting pictures, more focus on a particular skill, more choices.

Headset
Set up your headset FIRST! There is a whole instruction sheet about it in the box!

Please CHECK the volume on your computer BEFORE you try the headset.

Unlike other headsets from my past that took forever to set up, as soon as I plugged in the USB, this headset worked! Unfortunately for my ears, I didn't read the "Set Up Your Headset" card first. It explains everything about adjusting the volume. Right brain kicked in and I started installing the first thing I saw....

It is a comfortable headset. I almost forgot I had it on--until the boys came over and waved their arms to get my attention.

Installation
It is a breeze compared to the original version and even faster than Version 2. It is very easy and very user friendly on the Windows version. I don't use a Mac.

Keep those registration cards as you need the code for activation and tech support. Registration is also very easy and fast.

The Quick Start guide is very easy to follow. As I mentioned above: Set up the headset first and check the volume before you try the headset.

Selecting the Learner's Course
Adding users is quick and simple.

If you are totally new or need the credit, simply select the Full Year Curriculum. There are several more choices depending on your focus.

Placement Lessons
I chose to take the "Placement" course because I already know some Spanish, and wanted to see how it works. This consists of doing review lessons in the form of a test--still learning while I take the test.

It's pretty fun doing the review lessons for placement. You move on if your score is high enough. If it's lower, you have an option to review the lesson again.

Audio Companion™
All of the Version 3 products come with the Audio Companion™ CD. This allows your student to review language skills away from the computer. It can be used on a CD player or downloaded to an MP3 player.

The following languages are available in Rosetta Stone, Version 3:

There are three levels for each language in Version 3. Each level is available separately or in a combo set with Levels 1 and 2 or a combo with all three levels. If you are serious about learning a language, the three level combo is the best buy.
