AVKO Sequential Spelling

Sequential Spelling is the only method of teaching spelling that eliminates the "study-for-the-test-and-forget-by-Monday" syndrome.  Each of the 7 levels has 180 daily tests of 21 words for a total of over 25,000 words!  Sequential Spelling teaches spelling patterns and the way words build (all, tall, stall, install, installment, installation). For this reason you should always start with Volume 1 because Sequential Spelling teaches by patterns, not by grade levels. Learning to spell by patterns is easy. Every Sequential Spelling book contains 180 lessons (about 72 pgs.)

There is a Student Response Book for recording answers. This program is economical because you can reuse the spelling books for your other students.

From AVKO Educational Research Foundation,  this is a multi-sensory spelling approach. The letters in AVKO stand for Auditory, Visual, Kinesthetic, and Oral. By using the multi-sensory learning methods, dyslexic students can learn to compensate for learning difficulties in spelling.

The Student Response Book for Sequential Spelling works in both the homeschool and the class setting. Although the use of the student response book is optional, it is highly recommended because it keeps the student's responses neat and orderly and doesn't allow the student to see the previous day's words. we recommend that you purchase one for each child, especially if you need to keep a portfolio of their work.
